Single Strand Basket Weave
Groundbreaking for the Queens Midtown Tunnel occured in 1936 and the official first car was driven through carrying President Franklin Roosevelt in 1940.
DESIGN:
The QMT has a surprising number of different designs in its service access lids, although all sport the singular QMT lettering. The peculiarity here is the slightly increasing height of the letters from Q to T. The single strand basket weave design was and still is often used for communication lines.
