LEVEL 3
A few places in lower Manhattan have this mysterious portel, seemingly to the next level of some gigantic New York sized game world. In a way that's true, but Level 3 Communications reached Game Over in 2017, netting $34 billion from Century Link, which presumably also aquired this manhole cover.
DESIGN:
The singe thread flat weave design is a classic for communications companies, most notably the NY Mail and Newspaper Transport Pneumatic Tube Company which ran near this cover.
UTILITY:
Communications Cables
RANGE:
There are a scattering of Level 3 covers in Manhattan inclucing this one on West 16th St. near Google.
