Making Things Clear
This standard issue Con Edison ring cover is located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Presumably that was why some welder was told to remove the Con Ed medal in the center and curiously to just leave the E and the N of Edison.
DESIGN:
The cover has the classic three rings of rings that had it's origin in the early 20th century covers of various Edison companies. The open ring design is still in use, but not by Con Edison.
UTILITY:
The electrical conduits within the Navy Yard are not maintained by Con Edison. Keeping that distinction clear was probably the reason for the scrubbing away of most of the logo.
RANGE:
This example in in the Brooklyn Navy Yard on 3rd St. The basic design if found throughout the city.
