After consolidation of the outer boroughs in 1898, one of the lucrative perks of the newly elected Borough Presidents was the construction of sewers. Here is the classic honeycomb with the inscription of the man who brought sewers to your block, the Borough President of Brooklyn.

DESIGN:

An unusually fresh example of the classic design. Note the captain's wheel lugs on the cover's setting

UTILITY:

More so than the other boroughs Brooklyn was a pioneer is separating rainwater runoff from human sewerage - the so-called sanitary stuff.

The BPB insignia can be found throughout the borough, this example is from Hamilton Ave. near the Gowanus Canal.
