Acid Waste 1942
As the United States was entering the World War II, there was a large expansion of building in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Underground new industrial systems of drainage and supply were needed. This cover was of a design used over several systems, with its particular functions duly noted.

The wide gutter grid design with a san-sarif text banner in the center was used extensively in the Brooklyn Navy Yard for various systems. Some of the covers seem to have been hand dated by workers.
UTILITY:
Special sewer line.
RANGE:
Brooklyn Navy Yard near Morris and Fifth Streets.
