Single Strand Basket Weave
Groundbreaking for the Queens Midtown Tunnel occured in 1936 and the official first car was driven through carrying President Franklin Roosevelt in 1940.
The QMT has a surprising number of different designs in its service access lids, although all sport the singular QMT lettering. The peculiarity here is the slightly increasing height of the letters from Q to T. The single strand basket weave design was and still is often used for communication lines.
This example is in Long Island City on 51st Ave between Jackson Ave and 11th St.
